SUMMARY
A fallen angel with a mean streak and a mohawk, Hades has spent thousands of years serving as Jailer of the Underworld. The souls he guards are as evil as they come, but few dare to cross him. All of that changes when a sexy fallen angel infiltrates his prison and unintentionally starts a riot. It’s easy enough to quell an uprising, but for the first time, Hades is torn between delivering justice — or bestowing mercy — on the beautiful female who could be his salvation…or his undoing.

Thanks to her unwitting participation in another angel’s plot to start Armageddon, Cataclysm was kicked out of Heaven and is now a fallen angel in service of Hades’s boss, Azagoth. All she wants is to redeem herself and get back where she belongs. But when she gets trapped in Hades’s prison domain with only the cocky but irresistible Hades to help her, Cat finds that where she belongs might be in the place she least expected…

FIRST LINE
"If Cataclysm had to clean one more toilet in this demon purgatory known as Sheoul-gra, she was going to jump in and flush herself down."

MY THOUGHTS
Larissa Ione's Demonica series is an epic, all-encompassing collection of books that focus on the trials and tribulations of an angel/demon-infused world.  I have been a fan of the series for years and, therefore, have high expectations of every new installment.  Besides the fantastic worldbuilding and snarky one-liners, one of my favorite aspects of the series is the author's ability to take "villains" and redeem them without making me them seem like different characters.  She does that once again with Hades and provides fans (and newbies) with a sensual and violent romance between two fallen angels.

Hades is the jailer of this world's Hell (known as Sheoul).  His basic job is to keep order among the demons and humans that are sent there by his boss, Azagoth aka the Grim Reaper.  Hades is as mean as one would expect from someone who has spent centuries dealing with the dregs of this world.  But, he does have a few soft spots and one of them is the fallen angel, Cataclysm, who works in Azagoth's home after almost bringing about the Apocalypse.

I adored both of these characters.  Hades is very much a bad boy yet he has some vulnerabilities that made me want to give him a hug.  He very much deserved to be punished in his early angel days, but I felt for how such treatment has effected him after so much time.  Cat starts out as a bit of Mary Sue until I learned more about her particular angelic powers and the reason why she got caught up with one of the Big Bads of the series.  While she may be fallen, she still has the desire to get her wings back and does everything she can to make things right.

While I really enjoyed both main characters and thought they were a good match, I did feel like things moved too fast for me to really believe in their happy ending.  I think this particular story would have been better served by a full-length novel so that the author could have really explored Hades's moral conundrums and Cat's internal dilemmas.  But, I did think Hades was an enjoyable read that helped me get my Demonica fix until the next story.

FAVORITE QUOTE
"Shit,” he rasped. “Too much. This is too much.”
Too much what? It wasn’t enough, as far as she was concerned. “I like touching you.”
“No one ever touches me.” He took a deep, shuddering breath that somehow sounded...pained, and not in a good way. “Nothing but the wind and rain ever does.”
