MINI-REVIEWS: Paranormal Romance

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper
Narrated by Amanda Ronconi
(Naked Werewolf #1)

RATING: 3.5 Stars

SUMMARY: Even in Grundy, Alaska, it’s unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo’s ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble.

For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it’s love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he’s worried that he might be the violent canine in question.

If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he’s not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated. . .

I continue to enjoy Molly Harper's writing and Amanda Ronconi's narration.  The setting of Grundy, Alaska is very unique and alot of fun to read about.  The citizens of Grundy were typical small-town characters, but with a great deal of heart.

I liked Mo's character especially her sense of humor.  It was similar to Harper's other paranormal heroine, Jane Jameson, but not a complete copy.  Her background is very unique and I really enjoyed learning about her childhood.  I had a hard time liking Cooper at first.  He came across a little aggressive and a bit of a jerk.  Some of his actions made no sense to me even though he claimed they were in the name of Mo's protection.  I didn't feel like he groveled enough at the end, but that could just be my opinion.

All in all, another great paranormal story from Molly Harper. I am interested to see more from the Grundy gang especially if Cooper's crazy sister gets her own story.

Tangle of Need by Nalini Singh
(Psy-Changeling #11)

RATING: 4 Stars

SUMMARY: Adria, wolf changeling and resilient soldier, has made a break with the past--one as unpredictable in love as it was in war. Now comes a new territory, and a devastating new complication: Riaz, a SnowDancer lieutenant already sworn to a desperate woman who belongs to another.

For Riaz, the primal attraction he feels for Adria is a staggering betrayal. For Adria, his dangerous lone-wolf appeal is beyond sexual. It consumes her. It terrifies her. It threatens to undermine everything she has built of her new life. But fighting their wild compulsion toward one another proves a losing battle.

Their coming together is an inferno...and a melding of two wounded souls who promise each other no commitment, no ties, no bonds. Only pleasure. Too late, they realize that they have more to lose than they ever imagined. Drawn into a cataclysmic Psy war that may alter the fate of the world itself, they must make a decision that might just break them both.

Another installment of one of my favorite series!  I liked the main couple (Riaz and Adria) much more than I thought I would.  They were both damaged people who were in desperate need of comfort and love.  There were some definite obstacles to their HEA, but I think they achieved it pretty well.  I loved all the little tidbits we got of previous couples especially Mercy/Riley, Sienna/Hawke, and, my favorites, Judd/Brenna.

I love how complex the Psy-Changeling world is and how much suspense is involved in the overarching storylines.  There is so much going on and I can tell things are about to get very messy.  The events of this book really move the main plot along and I can't wait to read the next installment especially if it involves that little hint we got at the very end...

Sins of the Heart by Eve Silver
(Otherkin #1)

RATING: 3.5 Stars

SUMMARY: Half human, half god, Dagan Krayl is the Underworld's most powerful soul reaper. When one of his brothers is murdered, Dagan must use every ounce of his power to hunt down those responsible for his brutal death. But he must move swiftly—and carefully—if he's to have any chance of resurrecting his brother.

Yet that resurrection could wreak havoc on the mortal world. As an Otherkin, Roxy Tam has sworn to protect the human race, and it's her mission to stop Dagan. But when she sees him face-to-face, she realizes that she has seen him once before—a meeting that changed her life forever.

Neither Dagan nor Roxy expect to join forces for the sake of mankind. Or to have their loyalties tested as they struggle against the potent desire that threatens to consume them both….

Intriguing worldbuilding and multi-dimensional characters make for an entertaining paranormal romance.  I loved the whole premise of this supernatural world with the gods, goddesses, demons, soul reapers, etc. The political aspects were unexpected, but intriguing.

I liked both of the main characters though I felt, at times, like we weren't given enough about them.  Dagan was sexy, tortured, and lonely while Roxy was independent, strong, and admirable.  I liked the tone of the relationship between the brothers, but I wish we had seen them interact more.

The mystery was engrossing at first, but had a hard time keeping my interest by the end.  It seemed like everything happened so fast at the end that I was left a little confused.  Because not everything was tied up in a neat little bow at the end, I look forward to more from this series plus I want to find out more about those sexy brothers!
